Voters in Western Australia's local government elections have until 6pm to lodge their ballots.

After an initially weak response, the participation rate is on track to reach a level comparable to previous elections, WA Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake said.

"I would encourage anyone who has not yet voted to make every effort to do so," Mr Kerslake said.

Electors can hand-deliver ballot material to their local council up to 6pm on Saturday.

Voters in Broome, Derby-West Kimberley, Halls Creek, Wiluna, Wyndham-East Kimberley and York can go to polling places until 6pm.

All eyes will be on the result for the City of Perth, given Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi was recently deemed to have engaged in serious misconduct by failing to disclose several gifts, including a US$36,800 BHP Billiton-funded hospitality package for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Her rival, Reece Harley, says there is a culture of entitlement at the council and he wants to lead it to a new era of transparency and accountability.
