Latin American trade talks on Gold Coast

Officials from Australia and four Latin American countries will nut out details for a new free trade agreement during talks on the Gold Coast this week.

Australia officials are negotiating a free trade pact with Latin American countries during talks on the Gold Coast this week.

Trade Minister Steve Ciobo is pursuing a trade agreement with a Pacific-bloc consisting of Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru.

He said it represented an under-explored market for Australian exporters.

Negotiations began last June.

Australia already has separate free trade deals with Chile and Peru and will have Mexico covered as well when the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement comes into force this year.
