The change of prime minister has brought a change of language around Islam and has been well received, incoming assistant minister for multiculturalism Craig Laundy believes.
Mr Laundy, the member for the diverse western Sydney seat of Reid, will take up his new role when he's sworn in on Thursday and says he'll focus on informing the debate about Islam.
"The Islamic community are not scared to have the debate but they want it to be respectful and they want it to be informed," he told ABC radio on Tuesday.
