Le Fondre targets record Sydney FC haul

Adam Le Fondre remains on track to challenge Bobo for the A-League's record haul of goals in a season, but he's upset he's still leaving chances on the field.

He's ahead of the record line in the race for the A-League's golden boot, but Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre has warned he should only be getting better.

Le Fondre scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season in the Sky Blues' 2-1 win over Brisbane on Saturday night, making for his second brace of the summer.

That puts the Englishman three ahead of where his predecessor Bobo was after the same amount of games last season, before he went on to finish with a record haul of 27.

But the 32-year-old is disappointed he still feels he is leaving goals on the pitch, something he is desperate to remedy now he's a third of the way through his first season in Australia.

"I've probably been a bit frustrated in the way I'm playing personally, I've probably not been at my best for a lot of the games but obviously scoring," Le Fondre said.

"I want more. I don't want to just settle for two goals, I want three or four. They were definitely there for me tonight and I didn't put them away.

"If you're just satisfied with things then you'll never get better.

"Even at 32 I want to get better. Father time waits for no one and I want to continue on an upward curve playing as good as I can for as long as I can.

"Whenever I'm playing I'm going to be scoring goals, that's just me. I know that for a fact."

Forming part of Le Fondre's belief is the return of midfielder Siem de Jong from an early-season hamstring injury, which has restricted him to just four starts this summer.

The Dutch national was influential in Le Fondre's second goal on Saturday, which came through a well-worked play that also included Milos Ninkovic and Brandon O'Neill.

"I think we've got a really good attacking force," Le Fondre said.

"We do a lot of build-up stuff of how to break between the lines and look for ways to break teams down. It's just getting in the right position."

But regardless of Le Fondre's assessment of his own form in the opening nine rounds for the league favourites, he's impressed coach Steve Corica.

"He's a machine, he keeps going," Corica said.

"He's a poacher. He's in the box. He's making runs down the sideline and holds the ball up. He's not that tall but he wins a lot of headers as well which is good for us.

"He wants to beat Bobo's record I'd say. He obviously loves scoring goals and that's his job. For me what's important is he does the work for the team and he keeps scoring."
