LeBron scores 51 points in Lakers NBA win

LeBron James has scored a season-high 51 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat while Portland, Memphis and Orlando also won in the NBA.

LeBron James has scored 51 points against his former team as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat 113-97 in the NBA.

James had 19 points in the first quarter to set the tone. The Lakers, who led by as many as 21 and never trailed, have improved to 9-7 on the season.

The 51 points is a season high for James and the most he's scored against Miami; he had 47 against the Heat twice.

It was the 13th 50-point game of his career and his first win against the Heat since he left them after the 2014 NBA Finals.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 19 points while Kyle Luzma added 15 for the Lakers.

Wayne Ellington scored 19 points for Miami (6-10),who were without Goran Dragic (groin) and Dwayne Wade (paternity leave).

Josh Richardson scored 17 points before getting ejected in the fourth quarter after throwing one of his sneakers about 15 rows deep into the crowd, while he was arguing about what he thought should have been a foul call.

Damian Lillard scored 40 points and CJ McCollum added 25 to guide the Portland Trail Blazers past the Washington Wizards 119-109.

Portland (11-5) led by as many as 29 points in the third quarter and by as few as eight in the final minute.

John Wall had 24 points for the Wizards, and Kelly Oubre added 19.

Wizards centre Dwight Howard (gluteal soreness) played just seven minutes in the first quarter before leaving the game after aggravating the injury that kept him out of the first seven games of the season.

Marc Gasol had 26 points and 13 rebounds while Mike Conley added 18 points and nine assists as the Memphis Grizzlies pulled away to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-87 in the NBA.

Gasol was four of seven from three-point range while the Grizzlies (10-5) forced Minnesota (7-10) into 20 turnovers.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 15 points and 20 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who dropped their first game in four since trading four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Aaron Gordon scored 20 of his 31 points in the first quarter with the Orlando Magic holding on to beat the New York Knicks 131-117.
