Lee one shot off lead in Phoenix Open

Danny Lee has fired a second-round five-under 66 to be one shot off the pace and in a tie for second in the Phoenix Open.

New Zealander Danny Lee has moved to within one shot of the lead in the Phoenix Open in Arizona after carding a five-under 66 for his second round.

Starting on the 10th tee at TPC Scottsdale, Lee had five birdies in his first eight holes, a stretch that had him at the top of the leaderboard.

He then mixed two bogeys and two further birdies over the balance of his round to go to nine-under after 36 holes in the PGA Tour event.

Having been in a share of sixth after the opening round, Lee is tied for second with American Rickie Fowler, who carded a 68.

Fowler had been the overnight co-leader, but was overtaken by compatriot James Hahn, who hit the front with a bogey-free 65.

Day two ended with play being suspended because of darkness while a handful of players were still out on the course.

Lee, 25, has won once on the tour, claiming the Greenbrier Classic title in West Virginia last July.

Geoff Ogilvy and Matt Jones are the best-placed Australians at one under while Aaron Baddeley had a shocking round of six-over 77 starting the day three shots off the lead.
