A Lego thief has robbed a NSW country toy shop of thousands of dollars worth of the popular plastic blocks, including prized collectables.

The burgler broke into the Toyworld Young on Easter Monday at 3:30am, taking off with about $8500 worth of Lego, NSW Police said on Monday.

CCTV footage of a person who walks with a distinct hobble has been released.

"This person has a distinct way of moving and police hope somebody may recognise them," NSW Police said in a statement.

The pilfered haul was significant, an employee of the toy shop told SBS.

"This is a big hit for small store," she said.

But they're not holding out much hope in seeing the much-loved toys return.

"That would be nice (to get it back) but I don't think that would be the case."
