Emerging batsman Jake Lehmann and his dad, Australian coach Darren Lehmann, refuse to discuss his Test prospects.
Lehmann shot into the Ashes selection frame by making 103 and 93 for South Australia against Victoria in the just-completed Sheffield Shield game.
But he and his father dodged the subject of Test selection when they caught up after the game finished on Tuesday in Melbourne.
"I saw the old man last night; he was at the Melbourne Cup having a couple of frothies so he was all good," Jake Lehmann told reporters on Wednesday in Adelaide.
"We actually had no conversations about it at all last night.
"Coops (SA teammate Tom Cooper) dropped a couple of little questions in there but there was no responses at all - it was a pretty clean slate."
The 25-year-old stroke player has a long-standing arrangement with his father.
"We have come to pretty much an agreement that ... you go to cricket and cricket stays there," he said.
"And when you come home, it's just family. He's the old man and I'm his son so it's just normal."
Lehmann said he hadn't given much thought to his claims for Australia's disputed No.6 batting slot for the first Test against England starting on November 23.
"There has been a lot of talk about it ... but it is what it is," he said.
"And until that (Test selection) actually happens, you never actually know. So we'll see what happens.
"If you're not thinking about playing for Australia or pushing to play for Australia, you're not playing state cricket for the right reasons.
"There is always thought processes about that.
"But I still just think you rock up every day and, if you're good enough, eventually you will get enough runs and you will get a game."
