As thousands rallied across Australia for a group of asylum seekers to be allowed to stay in Australia, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews took two young refugees to the zoo.
Mr Andrews has posted a photo of the two boys during the visit, describing them as "ordinary Victorians in almost every way".
"But one thing is very different: any day now, these two boys will be deported to Nauru and will stay there indefinitely," Mr Andrews says on his Facebook page.
The photo of the boys does not show their faces.
Mr Andrews' post follows a letter he wrote to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull offering to accept "full responsibility" for 267 asylum seekers, including 91 babies and children, who face being sent to Nauru after a High Court ruling.
