A parliamentary inquiry into halal certification should get to the bottom of whether profits are ending up in the hands of terrorist groups, a Liberal senator says.

Cory Bernardi concedes the Australian Crime Commission has found no direct evidence that certification fees end up in the hands of terror orgnanisations.

"Now that doesn't mean, of course, that some money isn't flowing into organisations that are fostering or cultivating extremism at some level," he told ABC TV, noting he'd like to establish the facts on behalf of concerned community members.
