Ley wants Aussie women to get active

Health and Sport Minister Sussan Ley is encouraging Australians to join sporting teams to get active and healthy - and help protect their bones.

Women are being urged to wind back the clock and reconnect with a team sport they may have played when they were younger.

Federal Health and Sport Minister Sussan Ley on Tuesday launched a campaign called No Time For Never to encourage women of all ages to get active and put their health first.

It coincides with World Osteoporosis Day, creating awareness for the brittle bone condition that affects more than one million Australians and can be mitigated through exercise.

Ms Ley, donning exercise clothes at the Parliament House soccer field, said half an hour of physical activity or even a walk around the block can make a difference.

"You don't have to do it perfectly, you don't have to look fantastic in your gym gear ... you just have to do a little bit when you can," she told reporters.

Ms Ley said joining a team was a good way to get moving.

"If you've got an organised sport to go to, it's pretty hard to just roll over and turn the alarm clock because you don't want to let the team down," she said.
