After two leadership challenges in as many terms in office, the Liberal Party should consider introducing rules to ensure stability, Nick Greiner says.
The Liberal Party federal president and former NSW premier told Sky News on Sunday a model to make it harder to change leader should be on the party's agenda, but conceded it wouldn't be top of mind for new Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
"It's an obvious thing to look at in the circumstances," he said on Sunday.
"In opposition Labor has managed to submerge the differences within their parliamentary party quite effectively.
"They deserve some credit for that."
Mr Greiner says the Liberal Party had to support the new prime minister for "Australia's sake" or suffer the consequences at the next election.
