Liberals urge debate social media flood

Liberal Party federal director Brian Loughnane has urged supporters to step up the social media campaign ahead of the first leaders' debate.

The Liberals are urging supporters to flood social media platforms in favour of Opposition Leader Tony Abbott during Sunday night's first leaders' debate.

In an email sent ahead of the 6.30pm (AEST) event, Liberal Party federal director Brian Loughnane sets out how supporters can get involved.

"This is your debate, so join in, take to social media, ask questions, share your thoughts and please post your support for Tony," Mr Loughnane said.

The Liberal Party has set up Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and urged the use of the Roy Morgan Reactor app, produced by Roy Morgan Research to monitor immediate responses to the debate.

Mr Loughnane said over the past two weeks there had been a 70,000 boost in "likes" on Mr Abbott's Facebook page.

The Liberal Party Facebook page was the first Australian political party page to reach 100,000 likes.
