Licence suspension for NT hotel

NT police have suspended the liquor licence of the Tennant Creek Hotel for 48 hours.

The Tennant Creek Hotel's liquor licence has been suspended for 48 hours under new powers given to Northern Territory police to crack down on the irresponsible service and sale of alcohol.

The Katherine Hotel has also been issued with a warning notice by police.

Attorney-General Natasha Fyles has not provided details of the issues at the two hotels but said the irresponsible service and sale of alcohol would not be tolerated as the alcohol-related cost to the NT was too high.

"A liquor licence is a privilege, not a right, and must be treated as such," she said in a statement on Wednesday.
