Light plane crashes on NSW mid-north coast

Emergency services are searching for a light plane that's believed to have crashed after activating a distress beacon on the mid-north coast of NSW.

Two people have reportedly been pulled from the wreckage of a light plane crash on the NSW mid-north coast.

Emergency services were called to Port Macquarie Airport after a light plane activated a distress beacon just after 8.30pm on Friday.

The plane took off from the airport with two people on board, a trainee and instructing pilot, before crashing into nearby bushland, Fairfax Media reported.

Police and the NSW SES began searching swampland around the airport and AAP understands the wreckage was found with the two occupants alive inside.

The two have been removed from the wreckage, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
