Lightning blamed for SA fires

The Country Fire Service says lightning sparked two bushfires south of Adelaide, destroying 50 hectares of grass and scrub.

Lightning strikes have sparked two bushfires south of Adelaide with a combined 50 hectares of grassland and scrub destroyed.

The Country Fire Service said the fires at Bald Hills and Inman Valley on Saturday were challenging for crews but were brought under control by early afternoon.

There were no significant property losses.

About 70 firefighters from 30 ground units were sent to the area with support from four water bombing aircraft and other resources.

Fire crews planned to remain on the scene for some time and on alert across the state with forecasts of more lightning and strong winds overnight on Saturday and into Sunday.
