Lions sit top of AFL women's league

Brisbane's AFL women's coach Craig Starcevich says his side won't be getting carried away by being the only unbeaten outfit in the competition.

Brisbane coach Craig Starcevich has ordered his unbeaten AFL women's team to ignore their new-found flag favouritism.

The Lions knocked off Adelaide by three points on Saturday night to remain the sole undefeated outfit in the competition.

In handing the Crows their first loss of the season, Starcevich's charges put one proverbial foot in the door of the grand final.

With two rounds remaining, the Lions are also in pole position to host the inaugural playoff but Starcevich is refusing to hear any grand final talk just yet.

"The message that we just gave the players was that there is no end to ... the quality of opposition that you face every week," he said after Brisbane's gutsy 5.3 (33) to 4.6 (30) away win in Adelaide.

"The Bulldogs would have been sitting back watching, plotting and planning and getting ready to come to Brisbane next week so it's a week-by-week thing.

"People in Brisbane will no doubt be getting a little excited about the prospect of what might come in the next three weeks.

"But for us ... we are worried about getting the group across the line every week. Two more games to go and we'll see what pans out from there."

Adelaide coach Bec Goddard said her players would learn valuable lessons from their defeat.

"It's our first loss. We have played four really great games of footy and the fifth (was) a pretty good one and Brisbane just were three points better," Goddard said.

"A loss isn't a loss if you learn from it. And I expect that we will, very quickly."
