One of the three Kurdish asylum seekers in Darwin who sewed his lips together has been taken to hospital and ended his protest.

The three Kurdish men in the Darwin immigration detention centre began their protest on Monday last week.

The group were still drinking sweet tea and water until early Monday, when they began refusing fluids.

The immigration department says one of a group who had been protesting was taken to hospital on Monday night.

The other two men continue their vigil but the department says food and water are on hand at all times.
