This little Piggie missed out on going to the market and having roast beef for dinner, but at least her little baby finally has a name - Piglet.

The name was given to famous Queensland echidna Piggie's offspring on Tuesday after it won an online poll run by Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary staff.

Piglet hatched in late September and hasn't had a name until now.

The young monotreme's prickly, four-year-old mum is already well-known after being snatched from her enclosure before being rescued and returned last year.

Three men were charged over the incident.

After joining her eminent mother in front of the cameras, young Piglet is expected to go back to hiding in her burrow for most of the day.
