A contractor in Texas, who has not been identified, was rescued by police after becoming stuck inside an ATM machine on the street of Corpus Christi.
Police say the man was changing locks in a room at a local Bank of America which leads to the back of the ATM.
He was unable to let himself out of the room after leaving his swipe card inside his car.
"Apparently he left his cellphone and the swipe card he needed to get out of the room outside in his truck," Officer Richard Olden said.
The man started to send notes for help through the ATM receipt slot after realising customers were using the ATM.
One note said: "Please help. I'm stuck in here and I don't have my phone. Please call my boss..."
Corpus Christi police officer Richard Olden said police were called after one customer called them for help.
Police said a number of other ATM users ignored the notes thinking it was a joke.
When police arrived they inspected the machine and said they heard “little voices” coming from the machine.
The contractor was freed after roughly three hours. A police spokesperson said the man was “mortified”.
“You'll never see this again in your life that somebody's stuck in the ATM machine. It was just crazy,” Officer Richard Olden said.
