LNP finally gives up hope in Fairfax

The Liberal National Party says it won't challenge Clive Palmer's win in the Queensland seat of Fairfax after a protracted recount.

The Liberal National Party has finally given up any hope of taking the Queensland seat claimed by Clive Palmer.

Mr Palmer won the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax after a protracted recount that took weeks.

On Friday, the LNP said it had reviewed the recount and had decided not to petition the Court of Disputed Returns.

"The LNP again pays tribute to the hard work of its candidate Ted O'Brien and his commitment to the Sunshine Coast community," the party said in a statement.

It also thanked the party's volunteers and the Australian Electoral Commission for their work during the drawn out process to determine the result in Fairfax.
