Sydney AFL star Lance Franklin says having Swans legend Tony Lockett coaching at the club is very special. .

Lockett, who spent five and a half seasons with Sydney in two spells, after 12 years at St Kilda, recently reconnected with the Swans in a part-time coaching role, mentoring their forwards.

Among those is Franklin, who will play his 250th game on Friday night against Collingwood.

Franklin met Lockett for the first time when the man known as Plugger presented him with the 2014 Coleman Medal.

"When Horse (Swans' head coach John Longmire) said he (Lockett) was going to come down and do some coaching once a week, not only was I excited but everyone on the list was absolutely pumped," Franklin told Fox Footy's AFL 360.

"Then to have him in the changing rooms before a game, before we run out is something very special.

"He's just really good for not only myself, but any first, second-year player that is coming in.

"When you've got Tony Lockett teaching you how to kick a ball, and kick for goals it's just really special."

Franklin said one thing Lockett had focused on was getting the right height of ball drop when having a shot for goals.

"I think guys that miss goals, its probably due to the high ball drop," Franklin said.

"I think it's about keeping the ball as close to you foot as possible and then there's no room for error.

"We've just been speaking about that, keeping it pretty simple, but it's always nice to have a chat and to see where you're at.

"He's been looking at the vision and telling me where I went wrong, which is good."
