Germany's national team coach Joachim Loew has reportedly extended his contract until 2020.

Until now, the 56-year-old coach was signed up until only the next World Cup in Russia in 2018, but he will now stay on at least another two years, according to the Germany's Bild newspaper.

The details of the deal were reportedly finalised on Friday afternoon with Loew's adviser with the contract extension expected to be officially announced on Monday.

The German Football Association (DFB) did not want to comment on the matter when approached by dpa, but on Thursday the organisation's president Reinhard Grindel was full of praise for Loew.

"I have always said that Joachim Loew is the best coach that we could imagine for this team," Grindel said.

Loew has worked with the national team since 2004, taking on the head coach role in 2006 from Juergen Klinsmann.

His greatest achievement came in 2014 in Brazil, where his team beat Argentina 1-0 to win the World Cup final.
