Logies betting plunge on Scott Cam

Despite the awards being three weeks away, The Block host Scott Cam is being heavily favoured for the Gold Logie by punters.

The Block's jovial host Scott Cam has been the subject of a major betting plunge on this year's Gold Logie.

One bookmaker has written multiple bets from the same punters on Cam winning the Gold Logie even though voting is still open and the winner is not announced until April 27.

Sportingbet.com.au framed a market for the Gold Logie after the final nominees were revealed last Monday and installed Cam as the $3 second favourite behind last year's winner Keddie.

But Cam's price has now been slashed to $1.33 and Keddie has drifted to $4.50.

Sportingbet spokesman Andrew Brown said a small group of punters had made multiple bets at the maximum amount on Cam even the award is almost three weeks away.

"We've written 10 times more bets or tickets for Scott Cam than we have for anyone else," Brown told AAP.

"A number of punters have come back again and again and placed between $700 - $1000 each on him across a number of bets.

"So plenty of bets and plenty of decent-sized bets for a novelty market like this."

Cam and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries star Essie Davis are the fresh faces in the fight for the coveted trophy.

The pair join comedian Andy Lee, last year's winner Asher Keddie, The Project co-host Carrie Bickmore and Home and Away's Stephen Peacocke as the six nominees for the ceremony at Melbourne's Crown Casino.

The Logies has been the subject of two successful betting plunges in the past four years.

There was an avalanche of money on Keddie to win in 2013 and Home And Away veteran Ray Meagher was heavily backed in 2010.

The only plunge in recent times to fail was when Hamish Blake beat the heavily tried Carrie Bickmore in 2012.

Brown said previous plunges were in the final week or two of voting and not days after the nominees are announced.

* Logies betting (Sportingbet): Scott Cam $1.33, Asher Keddie $4.50, Carrie Bickmore $7, Stephen Peacocke $11, Andy Lee $17, Essie Davis $34
