Cabinet minister Christopher Pyne believes a long election campaign would be no different to day-to-day politics because of the fast paced media cycle.

There is speculation the federal government may go to an early July poll through a double dissolution election, which clears out both houses of parliament completely, and would result in a eight-week election campaign.

"We're in a constant campaign cycle now with social media... what would be different in a campaign to what we experience every day?" he told Sky News.
