Long stint on sidelines for Coulter-Nile

Australia paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile will be out of action for a 'lengthy rehabilitation period' because of a back injury.

Nathan Coulter-Nile's stop-start international cricket career has hit another hurdle, with scans revealing the paceman has a serious back injury.

Coulter-Nile, who has been on the cusp of a Test debut over the past year and played 16 ODIs, was sent home from the ongoing one-day series in Sri Lanka because of a sore back.

"Nathan underwent an MRI scan which has unfortunately revealed a lumbar bone stress injury in his lower back," team physiotherapist David Beakley said.

"He will now enter a lengthy rehabilitation period.

"His return to play (date) will be determined in due course."

Coulter-Nile has dealt with a handful of injury setbacks since making his international debut in 2013.

The right-armer was set to make his Test debut last summer prior to dislocating his shoulder in a Big Bash League game.

He missed last year's ODI World Cup in Australia following hamstring surgery.

Australia quicks Coulter-Nile, Peter Siddle, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins are all currently on restricted duties as they recover from injuries.
