Long-term player contracts in the AFL

Fremantle star Nat Fyfe's six-year contract extension signed on Monday is among the longest player deals in recent AFL history.

OFF THE MARKET: LONG AFL PLAYER CONTRACTS

ALASTAIR LYNCH (10 years): Few would have expected the Tasmanian to finish a triple-premiership player when he joined Brisbane in 1993 from Fitzroy on the extraordinary deal at the age of 25. Full-forward Lynch played 306 games, even signing a one-year contract extension to play in 2004 before retiring at 36.

LANCE FRANKLIN (nine years): Franklin was a two-time premiership star with Hawthorn when he agreed to Sydney's $10 million contract in 2013. The mercurial forward has helped the Swans into two grand finals, winning the Coleman medal in 2014. He will be 35 when his deal runs out in 2022.

TOM BOYD (six years): After one season with Greater Western Sydney, No.1 draft pick Boyd joined the Western Bulldogs before the 2015 season on a $6 million deal which instantly made him one of the highest-paid players in the game. His contribution to the Bulldogs was unspectacular before starring in their 2016 grand final triumph. He has taken time away from the game this season due to depression.

NAT FYFE (six years): The 2015 Brownlow medallist was courted by Victorian clubs but insists he never seriously considered leaving Fremantle. The 25-year-old midfielder will remain at the Dockers until at least the 2022 season.

FIVE-YEAR DEALS: Michael Hurley (Essendon), Josh Jenkins (Adelaide), Callan Ward (Greater Western Sydney), Daniel Talia (Adelaide), Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood), Dyson Heppell (Essendon), Trent Cotchin (Richmond), Joel Selwood (Geelong), Brett Deledio (Richmond), Jack Martin (Gold Coast), Nic Naitanui (West Coast), Phil Davis (Greater Western Sydney)
