Longbottom boost for Aust rugby sevens

The fleet-footed Maurice Longbottom has committed to Australia's rugby sevens program until the 2020 Olympics.

The lure of Commonwealth and Olympic gold has swayed exciting talent Maurice Longbottom to commit to Australia's rugby sevens program until 2020.

The former South Sydney rugby league junior and Australian Oztag representative has been a standout for the side in pre-season tournaments after he was scouted by coach Andy Friend last year.

"The prospect of representing my country at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games was a really exciting one for me," Longbottom said.

"The environment around the team and the staff is exceptional and we're building a really good squad."

Australia's squad will be named on Friday for the World Series opener in Dubai on December 1-3.
