Lotto provides some Father's Day riches

Two Queensland fathers who each won more than $1.9 million in Saturday night's Lotto super draw have finally come forward to claim their winnings.

Father's Day 2016 will never be forgotten by two lucky Queensland dads who have become instant millionaires after Saturday's Lotto super draw.

Golden Casket spokeswoman Elissa Lewis said the two winners finally contacted them on Monday morning to claim their winnings of more than $1.9 million each.

A Brisbane family who had been away for the weekend only realised late on Sunday night they had one of the 11 winning tickets across the country.

They plan to share the windfall with their extended family and pay off a chunk of their mortgage.

The other lucky Queensland father, a Sunshine Coast pensioner, only found out about his windfall when he overheard his newsagent telling another customer the store had sold a winning ticket.

"I jokingly said to him 'I bloody hope that winning ticket is mine!'," he said.

The reversal of fortune is a welcome highlight of what has been a tough year for the man and his wife.

"I think we'll buy ourselves our dream home," he said.

The winners have chosen to remain anonymous.
