Louis Gossett Jr to play Halle Berry's dad

Louis Gossett Jr is to play Halle Berry's dad in a new TV sci-fi series.

Movie veteran Louis Gossett Jr is to play Halle Berry's dad in Steven Spielberg's much-anticipated TV drama Extant.

Berry will portray an astronaut trying to reconnect with her family after a year in space in the TV series, and Gossett Jr will play her estranged father, a retired doctor.

Goran Visnjic, Grace Gummer and Camryn Manheim have also signed on to star in Extant, which will premiere in America in July.
