Cancer fundraiser Connie Johnson has died after a long battle with the disease, her brother says.
"We lost Connie today. Or, as she asked me to say, she died of cancer today," Gold Logie-winning actor Samuel Johnson wrote on Facebook on Friday.
"It was so beautiful. We laughed, we cried, we sang stupid songs from our childhood to her, which she loved (mostly!).
"I'm sad and sorry to be the one to tell you this, yet at the same time, as the chief custodian of my sister's legacy, I also feel extremely grateful and proud," Johnson wrote on the Love Your Sister Facebook page.
"Thanks for everything, Connie Cottonsocks. It was my pleasure to be your Sammy Seal."
Just the day before her death, the 40-year-old was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia from Governor-General Peter Cosgrove for her work on behalf of cancer sufferers, including the establishment of the Love Your Sister charity.
"Afterwards, she looked at me sideways, coz she can't move her head too well, and she kept saying, in her weak and raspy voice...'Can you believe it? Can you believe it? Look what we did. We did something!'" her brother wrote on the charity's Facebook page.
