Luck to pick Spieth's brain on Augusta

Australian golfer Curtis Luck has revealed he plans to hit with Jordan Spieth at Augusta ahead of his US Masters debut next April.

Top Australian amateur Curtis Luck hopes to gain valuable insight on the Augusta National course in practice alongside 2015 champion Jordan Spieth before next year's Masters.

Luck qualified for the Masters by winning the US Amateur title this year and will make it his amateur swansong before turning pro.

After playing alongside former world No.1 Spieth at the Australian Open in Sydney earlier this month, he said the wheels were already in motion to catch up early in the Masters week in April.

"I got his caddy's number off him and gave him my number," Luck said.

"Hopefully in that week prior to the actual tournament we'll be able to organise at least nine holes or something around the course and obviously try and get a little bit of info."

Spieth has an enviable record at Augusta National with second placings in 2014 and 2016 as well as his 2015 triumph.

Luck admitted it had been hard to keep his mind on anything but the coveted tournament since he first qualified in August.

"It's something I've dreamed of since I started playing when I was 10," he said.

"Every day for the past couple of months I've found myself just grinning and realising I'm going to be there next year.

"These next three or four months are pretty key to my development for that week, but realistically I can't wait to just get them over and be there."

The 20-year-old outgunned Spieth in the first round at Royal Sydney, shooting a five-under 67 to claim the early lead in the tournament, before he eventually finished tied for 11th.

And while Spieth went on to win the tournament, Luck said he had learned a lot from watching his perform at under his best on the opening days.

"That just says to me that it's all about consistency and I guess knowing roughly where your ball's going and where your miss is," Luck said.

Luck will also have the chance to play alongside world No.7 Adam Scott in the opening two rounds of the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast on Thursday and Friday.

"Adam Scott has been an Aussie idol for me since I started, growing up playing golf," Luck said.

"To be playing with him this week is extremely exciting and I'm obviously very fortunate."
