Luckless Campese out for the season

Injury-jinxed Terry Campese has been ruled out for the rest of Hull KR's Super League season after suffering a ruptured hamstring tendon.

Hull KR captain Terry Campese's wretched run of luck continued on Monday when he was ruled out for the rest of the Super League season with a ruptured hamstring tendon.

The 31-year-old former Canberra and NSW five-eighth missed the second half of his debut season in 2015 after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Campese made his comeback in March but picked up a hamstring injury in the game at Huddersfield and has since suffered a series of setbacks, culminating in his latest in Rovers' home game against Wigan earlier this month.

The 31-year-old, who made 17 appearances in 2015 and just five this season, was sent to see a specialist last week, with scans revealing the full extent of the damage.

The former Test playmaker endured a catalogue of injuries in his final two season with the Raiders before moing to the UK and has already begun the lengthy rehabilitation process but is not expected to play again this year.

It is a major blow to Hull KR as they prepare for a second successive battle against relegation in the Super 8s Qualifiers. Interim head coach James Webster said he was down to his last 17 fit and available players for last Friday's game at St Helens.

Hull KR head of rugby Jamie Peacock said: "This is really disappointing news for the club and for Terry, who has suffered greatly with injuries this season and done his very best to return as quickly as possible each time.

"When he has played for us, his quality and leadership skills have been clear to see, so we shall certainly miss his influence out on the field.

"However, the club reached the Challenge Cup final and completed the season without Terry's services towards the end of last year, whilst this season we have demonstrated our ability to win and win well without him.

"We have every faith in the likes of Albert Kelly, Maurice Blair and Matty Marsh to step up as required over the coming months and we are actively looking to strengthen the squad if the right player becomes available too.

"It's another example of the injury situation we are facing at the club at the moment but we are staying positive as a group.

"There is plenty of togetherness in the squad and those who have been playing through the pain barrier recently have an opportunity to recover this week and prepare for our next match against Warrington Wolves a week on Friday."
