Luckless Cat Menzel suffers setback

Geelong forward Daniel Menzel has suffered a hamstring injury as he attempts to make his comeback from a fourth knee reconstruction.

Geelong's Daniel Menzel has suffered another setback with the luckless forward straining a hamstring at training this week.

Menzel, 23, last played for the Cats in the 2011 qualifying final, but his career has been cruelled since by four knee reconstructions.

"It's really disappointing, but it's important for our supporters to know the situation with Dan," coach Chris Scott told FoxFooty on Thursday.

"His rehab from the latest knee surgery was going along really well, but unfortunately he strained his hamstring, which is going to hold him up a little bit.

"In the scheme of things of what Dan's been through he'll get over this one pretty quickly."

Scott said the injury was a 'normal' hamstring strain that would require a few weeks of recovery, with the club to take a conservative approach.

Menzel has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee three times and done the right ACL once.

"I think he's wondering what else can go wrong," Scott said.

"But having said that he isn't taking the mindset that it's going to be smooth sailing from here on in.

"He's going to have his ups and downs and this is a little blow, but not one that he can't recover from."
