A pilot has pulled off a lucky escape after his light plane burst into flames after crashing in Marulan in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
Emergency services arrived at a private air strip near the Hume highway on Friday evening following reports the aircraft smashed into the ground after trying to take off.
The pilot and sole occupant, a 78-year-old man from Robertson, managed to escape as the plane went up in flames and spewed thick black smoke.
He did not require medical treatment.
His single engine Brumby was not so lucky, with the aircraft completely destroyed in the fiery crash.
