Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle has been presented as the PGA Tour Courage Award winner at the Greg Norman medal night.

Lyle, 34, returned to the Tour in 2014 after spending two years battling his second bout of acute myeloid leukaemia and is currently playing on the tour with a medical extension.

The award is presented to a player who makes a significant contribution to the sport after overcoming extraordinary adversity, such as personal tragedy or debilitating injury or illness.

"It has taken a lot of fighting for me to get back to the PGA TOUR but it has been well worth it," Lyle said.

"For me to get back after the things I have dealt with shows people in similar situations there is hope for them, and if they stay positive and fight for every day then they can succeed in life.

"To be back playing with all the guys again and saying thank you was very important to me."

Lyle played in 10 events on the 2015 PGA Tour, with his best finish being tied for 31st at the Frys.com Open in California last December.

"Jarrod is a story of great perseverance and courage in the face of adversity," Tim Finchem, commissioner of the PGA Tour, said.

"To battle and overcome leukaemia twice is a statement unto itself as to his character.

"But he has also made a significant impression on all of us with his determination to reclaim his career as a professional golfer."

Lyle also made the decision to forward the $25,000 prize money to the Challenge charity which helps support children living with cancer.
