Conservative Christian political activist Lyle Shelton has spoken to Queensland police after boasting about a "sneaky run" over the NSW border.

The former head of the Australian Christian Lobby posted on Twitter on Saturday that he had done a "sneaky run across the border and back. Avoided the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus police".

The Queensland border is currently closed to anyone from the Greater Sydney region as authorities try to contain the NSW coronavirus outbreak.
Those from areas of NSW that have not been declared hotspots require a permit to cross the border into Queensland, with police patrolling the border.

Queensland police used their official Twitter account to respond to his tweet, saying "We are aware of this tweet and making further enquires".

Mr Shelton tweeted again late on Sunday night, to say he was "happy to speak with Queensland police today and explain my run along the coast from Coolangatta to the Tweed and back".
He added that there were no checkpoints for joggers or walkers and that he had not visited a virus hotspot.

"There is a valid debate re borders, but I respect the role of our police," he added.

A Queensland police spokesperson said they had no further comment to make at this time.
