Master blaster Chris Lynn has become the Big Bash League's all-time top run scorer on his way to steering Brisbane Heat to a six-wicket win over Perth Scorchers at the Gabba.
Lynn thrashed an unbeaten 56 to guide the Heat to 4-130 off 17.3 overs in reply to Perth's 9-128 on Friday night, leapfrogging Scorchers veteran Michael Klinger on the BBL's all-time list.
Brisbane (4-7-1) remain a mathematical finals chance but dead-last Perth (3-9) look set to collect the wooden spoon after Lynn ensured they suffered their fourth straight loss in front of 21,254 fans.
Lynn was the hero, stroking three fours and four sixes in his 39-ball knock - his 16th BBL half century.
He began his innings trailing Klinger (1917 runs) by just 29 runs on the all-time list.
He quickly reeled in the deficit, thrashing a six off Andrew Tye to reach the milestone.
"That seems an appropriate way of bringing it up," Fox Sports commentator Adam Gilchrist said of Lynn's run scoring feat.
Klinger could only look on from the sidelines after being overlooked for the BBL clash.
Ex-Test batsman Shaun Marsh was next to Klinger in the Perth dugout after he failed to field, resting a hamstring niggle.
Earlier, Josh Lalor's surprise hat-trick restricted Perth to 9-128 after Brisbane won the toss.
Only teammate Alex Ross realised Lalor had claimed the rare feat, pointing it out after the left-arm seamer nabbed a wicket with the last ball of his second over and nabbed scalps with the first two balls of his third late in the Scorchers' innings.
It is the fourth hat-trick in BBL history.
"We didn't even know," Lynn admitted.
The omens weren't good for the visitors after they lost the toss and two ducks flew onto the ground and started grazing the in-field at the start of Perth's innings.
"That's not a good sign if you are a batsman," Gilchrist said.
Lalor (3-23) and Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman (3-16 off four overs) ensured Perth never got going.
They were reeling at 3-17 in the fourth over with Marsh (two off six balls) among Ur Rahman's early scalps.
No.3 Cameron Bancroft (32 off 24 balls) and Nick Hobson (43 off 35) at least ensured a competitive total.
