Australia have turned back to Nathan Lyon to provide the answer to one of their biggest issues heading into next year's one-day World Cup, with spinners having taken just seven wickets for Australia in 2018.
With just 13 games until the World Cup in England, Lyon was named on Friday in Australia's 14-man one-day squad for this month's three-match series against India in place of Ashton Agar.
While most questions were asked about Australia's batting last year in the 50-over game, Australia's bowlers were the most expensive in the world in 2018 - going at 5.97 runs an over.
At the heart of that issue was Australia's spinners and their inability to take wickets in the middle overs.
Spinners and part-time turners bowled 145.5 overs for Australia last year in one-day internationals for their seven wickets - or one in every 125 balls.
Agar's average of 58 was embarrassingly Australia's best, while Lyon only played two games for overall figures of 1-70.
But he was at least the team's most-economical bowler of any type, and chief selector Trevor Hohns said they might even consider picking him and Adam Zampa in tandem in the World Cup.
"Nathan is the best offspin bowler in the world and we've noted how successful teams around the world have been using a two-pronged spin attack in the right conditions in white-ball cricket," Hohns said.
"(It's) something we are very mindful of heading to the World Cup."
Lyon is one of eight fresh faces in the squad from the team beaten 2-1 earlier this summer by South Africa, but he had told AAP at the time he only missed that series to begin red-ball preparations.
He'll have more chances to press his claims on the spin-friendly wickets of India and the UAE after the home summer, with two five-match series against India and Pakistan to follow.
Peter Siddle, Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Billy Stanlake join Lyon and Zampa as bowlers in Australia's one-day squad for the home series, with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins rested.
Nathan Coulter-Nile was not considered due to back soreness.
