The ALP has chosen Arnhem Land to set out its priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders if it retains government.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin says the party will boost its efforts to close the gap.

She says one of Labor's main aims is to reduce the number of our people behind bars.
