Online polling begins today in the People's Choice section of the competition, which is in its fourth year.
In 2006, it was won by muffin top, in 2007 by pod slurping and 2008 by toxic debt.
This year's winning word will be decided by University of Sydney Vice Chancellor Michael Spence and announced on February 3. The people's choice winner will be announced the same day.
