A brilliant century by NSW opener Nic Maddinson has propelled the Blues to a 93-run win against the Cricket Australia XI in Sunday's One Day Cup match.

Player-of-the-match Maddinson blasted 123 off 113 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes, as the Blues posted a total of 8-332 from their 50 overs.

In reply, the CA XI suffered a middle order collapse, with NSW earning a bonus point when they bowled their opponents out for 239 in 41 overs.

Former Test gloveman Peter Nevill was involved in a world record-equalling eight dismissals for List A matches - taking six catches and affecting two stumpings.

CA XI skipper Beau Webster won the toss at Hurstville Oval and sent the Blues in only to see Maddinson and Daniel Hughes (68 from 72 balls) set up the innings with an opening partnership of 132.

The Blues were poised for an even bigger total at 3-269 with nine overs left, but when Ryan Gibson (51 from 45) departed after a nice cameo wickets fell regularly.

Clint Hinchcliffe, who finished with figures of 4-71 from 10 overs, finally removed Maddinson when he bowled him around his legs, with Jonathan Merlo (2-53 from 10 overs) also important.

Opener Max Bryant top-scored for the CA XI with 89 runs from 61 deliveries, his innings including four sixes and 10 fours.

Doug Bollinger was the leading wicket-taker for the Blues with figures of 3-62 from 10 overs, with Nathan Lyon (2-25 from 10 overs) and Sean Abbott (2-69 from 10) chipping in with two wickets apiece.

Maddinson put an end to a frustrating last-wicket stand of 47 runs between Harry Nielsen (38 not out) and Matthew Kuhnemann when he speared a wide ball past the No.11, who was stumped by Nevill.

The defending champion Blues were fifth on the competition ladder going into the clash, but leapt to second with the win.

The CA XI remain in sixth spot with one win from three matches.
