Magnitude 6.3 quake hits near Solomons

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has struck near the Solomon Islands but there are no reports of casualties or damage.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 has struck near the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, the US Geological Survey says.

There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake, which struck 17km northwest of Auki, the capital of the province of Malaita, at a depth of 94km.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
