A magnitude 6.7 earthquake has struck off the town of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea.

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake has struck off the town of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey says.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which struck on Thursday at a depth of 33km about 128km east of the island of New Britain.

The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no Pacific-wide tsunami threat from the quake.
