Magnitude 6 quake hits off Japanese coast

The US Geological Survey reports that a magnitude 6 earthquake has struck off the east coast of Japan.

An earthquake measuring 6.0 in magnitude has struck off the east coast of Japan in the early hours of Sunday, the US Geological Survey reports.

The quake hit in the early hours of Sunday and its epicentre was offshore, 192km east of Hachinohe, Honshu island at a depth of 10km.

There was no tsunami warning in effect, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.
