Magnitude 7 quake strikes off PNG

A magnitude 7 earthquake has struck off Rabaul in Papua New Guinea.

An earthquake of magnitude 7 has struck off Papua New Guinea, the US Geological Survey says, but there have been no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.

The quake, the latest in a series in the region over recent days, struck 180km west of the town of Rabaul, on New Britain island, at a shallow depth of 10km, the USGS said.

There was no immediate tsunami warning.
