Magpies lose Elliott, Cox in doubt again

Collingwood have lost forward Jamie Elliott to injury for Saturday's AFL clash with St Kilda, while Mason Cox could miss a third straight game.

Luckless Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott has suffered another soft-tissue injury and will miss Saturday's AFL clash with St Kilda at the MCG.

The Magpies say Elliott suffered hamstring tightness late in last weekend's win over Carlton and will not be risked given his injury history.

Elliott missed all of last season with hamstring and ankle injuries but has made a solid return, booting 12 goals from seven games.

"Given Jamie's history, we're not going to take any chances there," Magpies football boss Geoff Walsh said on Tuesday.

"We'll pull him out of selection availability this week and rehab it.

"It's not a serious thing, in terms of what Jamie's been through, but ... we'll see how he goes in the next week or so."

Midfielder Dayne Beams (hip soreness) is expected to be available but giant ruck-forward Mason Cox could miss a third successive game.

The 211cm Cox hurt his ankle on Anzac Day when Essendon defender Michael Hurley trod on him.

"It's sort of lingering on for the big man," Walsh said.

"We'd hope that he's putting his hand up if not this week, then certainly the next."

Prime mover Taylor Adams (groin) remains several weeks away for the second-placed Pies, while James Aish and Chris Mayne have recovered well from concussions.
