Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams could be sidelined until the Queen's Birthday AFL clash with Melbourne after suffering tendon damage in his groin.

Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams' groin injury is worse than initially thought and will leave him on the AFL sidelines for about a month.

Adams suffered what the club described as a left adductor strain during Friday night's win over Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

It was initially thought the 25-year-old would be out for a fortnight but scans have since revealed tendon damage in his groin.

"It's probably worse than we first thought," Adams told Fox Sports.

"We first thought it was muscle. It's not muscle, it's tendon so that's obviously not a great sign.

"I imagine I'll miss at least a couple of weeks and probably pushing closer to four or so."

The Pies sit second on the ladder and should bank further points in games against Carlton, St Kilda, Sydney and Fremantle over the next month.

Adams' injury timeline means he could potentially return for the Queen's Birthday clash with Melbourne before the Magpies' bye in round 12.

The hard-nosed midfielder also missed the Pies' first two games with a tendon injury in his finger.

"Obviously my finger and now this, it's frustrating but it is what it is," Adams said.

Essendon wingman Andrew McGrath (knee) and North Melbourne backman Luke McDonald (groin) both had scans on Monday.

A five-day turnaround between the Bombers' loss to Geelong and Friday night's clash with Sydney at the SCG could test McGrath's recovery.

The Kangaroos host Geelong at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Both Josh Kelly (groin) and Phil Davis (ankle) face fitness tests for Greater Western Sydney, who take on Hawthorn at the MCG.

Ruckman Tom Hickey (hamstring) could return for premiers West Coast against his old side St Kilda.
