Maha Al-Shennag: Woman accused of school crash that killed two students to face trial

A woman who crashed her car into a Sydney school, killing two young boys, will face trial in 2020 after pleading not guilty to manslaughter charges.

A woman who crashed her car into a Sydney primary school will face trial in 2020 after denying the manslaughter of two young students.

Maha Al-Shennag formally entered not guilty pleas in the NSW District Court on Thursday to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

The 54-year-old is also charged with two back-up counts of negligent driving causing death.

Jihad Darwiche, aged eight, and his classmate died after a Toyota SUV ploughed into a classroom at Banksia Road Public School in Greenacre in November 2017.

A teacher and 17 children were treated at the scene while three girls were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Al-Shennag remains on bail and will face trial in Parramatta in May 2020.

She is also awaiting sentence after pleading guilty in Burwood Local Court last month to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct while driving, related to children injured in the crash.
