Man, 72, shot by police in southeast Qld

A 72-year-old man has been shot in the shoulder after allegedly brandishing two knives at police during a disturbance in Logan on Sunday.

An elderly man has been shot in the shoulder after he allegedly threatened police with two knives during a disturbance south of Brisbane.

The 72-year-old also allegedly hurled rocks at personnel who arrived at the Woodridge home shortly before noon on Sunday.

The incident culminated in an officer firing a single shot at the man, striking him in the right shoulder.

He has since been taken to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

Inspector Jim Plowman said the officer had "no option" other than to fire at the man, whom police believe may suffer from mental health issues.

"It's an unfortunate incident for all concerned," he said.
